Annual Ride Honors Officer Gunned Down In Harlem 43 Years Ago

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A memorial motorcycle ride was held Sunday to remember a fallen officer 43 years after he was killed.

Members of Nassau County's Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club took part in the 10th annual ride from Bethpage to Harlem in honor of Officer Philip Cardillo.

Cardillo was lured to a Harlem Mosque by a phony emergency call and gunned down, CBS2 reported.

Sunday's ride is said to be the last one now that a street outside the new police academy in Queens is being named in Cardillo's honor.

"The street being named is an important thing because at least it's some kind of dedication for the cause," said Cardillo's cousin Chris Cardillo. "And it blows me away that this many people still, all these years later, never forget."

Cardillo's muder remains unsolved.
