Tracking Device Helps Nassau Police Nab Cellphone Store Robbery Suspect

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A thief who robbed a cellphone store on Long Island was arrested thanks to the tracking device on one of the phones he stole, police said.

Christopher Lide, 32, broke the window of a phone store in Hicksville at 3 a.m. Saturday, Nassau County police said.

Lide grabbed cash and several phones and iPads before fleeing, cops said.

According to police, detectives located Lide 12 hours later through a tracking device on one of the phones.

Police stopped the suspect as he was driving on the Southern State Parkway.

Lide was arrested on a charge of third-degree burglary. He was awaiting arraignment Sunday.

It wasn't clear if Lide had a lawyer.
