Body Of Missing Connecticut College Student Found In Lake Ontario

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The body of a college student from western Connecticut has been found in Lake Ontario upstate, eight weeks after he vanished.

Max Maisel, 21, was a junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester. Classmates had last saw him leaving his campus apartment in upstate Henrietta on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Police days later found his car parked at a pier near Lake Ontario in upstate Charlotte.

Officials said Monday that a body found in Lake Ontario had been positively identified as Maisel's, CBS affiliate WROC-TV reported. The manner and cause of death is still under investigation Monday.

Maisel is the son of Ivan Maisel, a sportswriter who covers college football for ESPN and previously worked at Sports Illustrated, according to published reports.

Speaking to WROC In February, Ivan Maisel said his son was quiet and a fan of movies and Broadway plays, anime and photography.

Maisel's parents released a statement following the discovery of their son's body saying, "We knew this day would come, and we are relieved that it has," CBS News reported.

"We have mourned Max from the night that the Rochester police called to tell us he was missing. There was no other plausible solution to the puzzle he left behind," the statement said.
