CBS2 Exclusive: Woman Talks About Discovery Of Mother's Body As Murder Suspect Goes To Trial

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- In a stunning turn of events, the remains of a missing woman have been found -- just as a suspect is about to stand trial in a murder case where there had been no body.

CBS2's Ilana Gold spoke exclusively with the victim's daughter about the new twist in the case.

"I literally just cried to myself in my room," said Rashina Moore, 19. "Everyone was hugging me. But that's not enough."

Just this week, Rashina Moore learned that police had discovered the remains of her mother, Ramona Moore.

"She loved me," Rashina said. "She loved everybody."

Ramona Moore was last seen at her apartment on Jefferson Place in the Bronx back in July 2012, and there had been no trace of her since.

But just this past Friday, 60 miles to the north, a crew cutting down trees by Highway 208 in Orange County stumbled upon human bones. More bones were found in upstate Monroe County.

Investigators then traced then to Ramona Moore through dental records.

"She was a very friendly, caring person," Rashina said. "She cared about everyone. So I don't understand how a person could be so cold-hearted to do this."

Police said Moore's apartment superintendent, Nasean Bonie, killed her. He faced a judge in Bronx Criminal Court for a hearing Wednesday morning.

A grand jury actually indicted Bonie on the murder charge a year ago, when there was no body – something that has never happened in the Bronx before.

Prosecutors said the suspect tried extorting money from Ramona Moore, and he and the tenant got into a quarrel.

"She was on the phone with me. I was on my terrace," said Ramona Moore's friend, Sharon Wright. "She said he was cutting off the lights right now. I heard her arguing with him."

Wright said she spoke with Ramona Moore the same day she disappeared. The victim claimed Bonie kept harassing her about hiking up the rent paid for by Section 8.

"He wanted more money on top of that -- that's what Ramona had mentioned to me," Wright said.

The alleged details are expected to play out at trial.

Also Wednesday, Bonie was sentenced to four years behind bars for a violent attack against his wife. He apparently snapped when he found out she was cheating, and beat her with furniture and a belt, Gold reported.
