NJ Firefighter's Video Offers First-Hand Look At Battling Fire

RUMSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A firefighters wearing a helmet camera while battling a blaze at a mansion in Rumson, N.J. Monday gave a first-hand look of what it's like fighting a fire.

The video was taken by the brother of Firefighter Brett Murphy -- both firefighters with the neighboring Seabright Fire Department, CBS2's Christine Sloan reported.

The waterproof and flame resistant camera takes us inside the home, showing firefighters going from room to room looking for victims who could be trapped.

At times, sparks are falling from above.

In other parts of the house water is seen gushing from the ceiling.

"After we conducted our search, we went back in with a hoseline trying to advance into the fire," Murphy told Sloan.

"It's almost like you're there," Sloan said to Sea Bright Firefighter Joe Eskridge.

"Oh you're in it," Eskridge said. "It's hot and you're wet and the water's pouring on you and it's boiling hot," said Eskridge.

When asked why they put out the video, Murphy said it helps the community see what they do.

They also use it for training and have been doing it for seven years, Sloan reported.

The video was getting a lot of attention on YouTube because it is home to a charity event with priceless artwork inside.

Murphy and his brother are volunteer firefighters. When asked why they do this, he replied,"It's in your blood. You're born that way."

The $3.8 million home was badly damaged but not destroyed. No one was injured.
