New Jersey Lawmaker Calls On Feds To Wage War On Alzheimer's

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A call went up on Sunday, for the federal government to wage war on Alzheimer's Disease.

New Jersey State Senator Richard Codey, whose father passed away with Alzheimer's, made the plea.

He said increased funding can make a dramatic difference.

"The NIH tells us, America, that if you provide $2-billion in funding for us each year from now until 2025, we feel confident that we will have a cure and a prevention," he said.

Codey said that because people are living longer there has been a 71-percent increase in Alzheimer's cases.
