'American in Paris,' 'Fun Home' Lead Tony Nominations With 12 Each

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Theater fans, rejoice.

The 2015 Tony Award nominations were revealed Tuesday morning.

Mary-Louise Parker and Bruce Willis announced the nominees from the Paramount Hotel in Times Square.

As CBS2's Dana Tyler reported, the musicals "An American in Paris'' and "Fun Home'' each received a leading 12 Tony Award nominations on, showing two very different sides of this Broadway season.

One side is sunny -- the dance-heavy stage adaptation of the 1951 musical film choreographed by Gene Kelly -- and the other moody -- the dark show based on Alison Bechdel's coming of age graphic novel about her closeted and suicidal dad.

The Shakespeare spoof, 'Something Rotten!' has 10 nominations. 'The Visit' is up for Best Musical, it stars 82-year-old Chita Rivera, who is earned her 10th nomination.

She's in a closely watched category with Kristin Chenoweth, Leanne Cope for 'An American In Paris,' Beth Malone in 'Fun Home,' and Kelli O'Hara in 'The King And I.' He co-star, Oscar nominee, Ken Watanabe is among the Hollywood notables up for Tonys.

Dame Helen Mirren is Queen Elizabeth II in 'The Audience.' She won an academy award as the monarch in the 2006 film, 'The Queen.'

Based on the true story of a 19th century deformed British man, three time Oscar nominated actor Bradley Cooper got a nod as 'The Elephant Man,' along with film actors Allsandro Niovla and Patricia Clarkson

'Mad Men' star Elizabeth Moss was nominated for 'The Heidi Chronicles.'

In the play 'Skylight' there were nods for Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan and Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy.

Sting, a 16 time Grammy award winner, has ben nominated for Best Music and Lyrics for 'The Last Ship.'

The hosts of this year's Tony Awards are Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth.

Chenoweth was nominated for her role for "On The Twentieth Century."

One show that wasn't nominated was "Finding Neverland." Its popular stars Kelsey Grammer and Matthew Morrison were overlooked, as was Harvey Weinstein who made his debut as lead producer, CBS2's Alex Denis reported.

Fans took to social media to voice their disappointment.

The Tonys will be handed out at Radio City Music Hall and telecast on CBS on June 7.
