Sources: Bronx Mother Made Up Story About Baby Struck By Baseball Bat

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman who claimed that her baby boy was critically injured in a bat attack in the Bronx fabricated the story, sources said.

Police were originally told two men jumped out of a Toyota Camry near the corner of Noble and Story avenues in Soundview just after midnight and started swinging a bat at a man holding his 2-month-old son.

The boy's mother has since recanted the story, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

It seems she allegedly dropped the infant in her apartment and made up the story because she had a problem with the Administration for Children's Services in the past and was afraid of getting in trouble again, Jones reported.

The woman said the baby's father, described as the target of the fake attack, wasn't even with her when the baby was injured, Jones reported.

The baby is in critical condition, but stable condition at Jacobi Hospital.

The baby's mother is being questioned at the 43rd Precinct.

Sources tell CBS2 the mother and father could face charges of filing a false report.
