Bud Light Stirs Controversy With Labels Promoting 'Up For Whatever' Campaign

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The label on the outside of a beer bottle has left a bad taste in some people's mouths.

It reads, "The perfect beer for removing the word 'no' from your vocabulary for the night."

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, it's part of Bud Light's 'Up For Whatever' campaign. They've put 140 different messages on their beer bottles to promote spontaneous fun.

"Like the perfect beer for making up your own rules on game night. That's great. That invites fun," one woman said.

But many people say the label promotes something else.

"It definitely sounds like an invitation to some type of date rape situation," Jada Gomez said.

"There's nothing fun about not being in control of what you're planning to do next," Kevin Nesbitt said.

Ariel Zwang is chief executive officer of Safe Horizon, an agency that helps victims of sexual assault. She said the label is socially irresponsible.

"It's hard for me to believe that a national advertiser could be so oblivious to what has been a major national conversation about consent to sex," Zwang said.

Anheuser Busch, the owner of Bud Light, issued a statement regarding the labels.

"It's clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior. As a result, we have immediately ceased production of this message on all bottles."
