Adorable Ducklings Take Up Residence At Manhattan Apartment Building Fountain

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- No, they're not paying rent, but nine new ducklings are now calling a fountain outside a luxury Manhattan apartment building home.

As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, they're tiny, fluffy and never too far away from their mama duck in the fountain of the Stratford apartment building on York Avenue.

The ducklings' appearance was to the delight of neighbors, including 8-year-old Oliver.

"I love it! They're so cute," he said.

Bruce Smith, who lives down the block, said there are a few regular ducks in the neighborhood fountains but this one apparently decided to make a home and have a family.

"It's unusual, it's a unique situation. We've never seen that before," he said. "(It's nice to know they feel safe here.) Can you imagine? Yes, especially with so much noise, traffic, the ambulances."

A protective doorman shoos people away who lean in too close to take pictures, but the ducks don't seem to mind the attention, Rincon reported.

Animal Care and Control and wildlife agencies are also keeping an eye on the ducklings.
