Report: Mats Zuccarello Could Miss Remainder Of Stanley Cup Playoffs

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Monday, the Rangers announced that winger Mats Zuccarello was out indefinitely with an upper-body injury.

"Indefinitely" is a vague term, but it looks like the 27-year-old might not be on the ice any time soon.

According to the New York Post, Zuccarello will not be available for the Rangers' second-round series against the Capitals.

The newspaper also reports that if the Rangers advance to the Eastern Conference final and Stanley Cup Final, there's a good chance that the Norwegian won't play.

Zuccarello was hit on the head by a shot off the stick of teammate Ryan McDonagh in the first period last Friday night when the Rangers finished off the Penguins in the first round. Upon sustaining the injury, he skated to the bench and didn't return after going to the locker room.

The fan favorite may have suffered a concussion. He was hospitalized for at least one night this past weekend.

Zuccarello scored 15 goals and added 34 assists for the Blueshirts in 2015. In New York's series victory over the Penguins, the 5-foot-7 veteran had two assists and no goals.

Game 1 of the series against the Capitals kicks off on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m.

Game 2 will be played at MSG on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
