Giants Sign 2 Draft Picks, Cut 2 Players, Sign 6 Free Agents

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants have signed two draft picks, terminated the contracts of receiver Kevin Ogletree and linebacker Terrell Manning, and signed six undrafted rookies.

The team announced the moves late Thursday, the day before opening a rookie minicamp.

The draft picks were safety Mykkele Thompson, a fifth-round choice out of Texas, and offensive lineman Bobby Hart, a seventh-round selection from Florida State.

Thompson played in 52 games with 31 starts in four years for the Longhorns. He had 213 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Hart played both tackle and guard, appearing in 37 games.

Ogletree -- a Queens native -- joined the Giants last Oct. 14, two days after Victor Cruz suffered a season-ending knee injury, and caught five passes for 50 yards in seven games.

Manning signed with the Giants on Nov. 25. In his only game, at Jacksonville on Nov. 30, he hurt his ankle and was placed on injured reserve two days later.

The free agent signees were safety Justin Currie of Western Michigan, tackle Sean Donnelly of Tulane, linebacker Cole Farrand of Maryland, defensive end Brad Harrah of Cincinnati, running back Akeem Hunt of Purdue, and tight end Matt LaCosse of Illinois.

Currie played in 47 career games, including starts in all 37 games in which he played the previous three seasons. His career totals included 339 tackles and five interceptions.

Donnelly played in 42 games with 36 starts. He started 24 games at right tackle in 2013-14 and 12 games at left tackle as a sophomore in 2012.

Farrand started 29 games for Maryland. His career totals included 276 tackles, including a team-high 111 last season.

Harrah played in 42 games in four seasons at Cincinnati. He finished his career with 59 tackles (31 solo) and 7 1/2 sacks.

Hunt played in 49 games with 17 starts at Purdue. His career totals included 371 rushing attempts for 2,035 yards (5.5-yard average) and 11 touchdowns; 100 receptions for 841 yards and six scores; and 74 kickoff returns for 1,747 yards (23.6-yard average) and six touchdowns.

LaCosse played in 46 games at Illinois, where he caught 38 passes for 397 yards and six touchdowns.
