LIRR Far Rockaway Branch Suspended After Train Clips Car
HEWLETT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Far Rockaway branch of the Long Island Rail Road was suspended late Friday afternoon, after a train clipped a car in Hewlett.
The 4:42 p.m. train from Penn Station clipped a car near the West Broadway crossing, a short distance from the Gibson station in Valley Stream, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.
Only minor injuries were reported, but the Far Rockaway LIRR branch was completely suspended in both directions, Biermann reported.
The eastbound trains due at Far Rockaway at 5:26 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. were canceled, as was the westbound train due at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn at 5:35 p.m.
