Man Accused Of Dragging White Plains Officer 100 Feet With Car

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A police officer was dragged 100 feet by a suspect's car in White Plains.

Police said officers were trying to question 38-year-old Nino Valvano around 4 a.m. Sunday when he took off and the officer grabbed the car door, CBS2 reported.

During a police chase westbound on 287, police said Valvano called 911 and was convinced by phone to stop the car.

The incident started after Lola's Restaurant security had said they witnessed a man who they'd thrown out of the establishment go to his car and put something in his waist band.

The officer was treated at White Plains Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

Valvano is charged with 2 counts of assault, DWI, criminal possession of a weapon in the form of his vehicle, fleeing a police officer, reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Police said no weapon was recovered and the investigation is continuing.
