Dr. Oz Assists 2 People Injured In Car Crash On NJ Turnpike

WESTAMPTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Celebrity doctor Mehmet Cengiz Öz, better known as Dr. Oz, came to the aid of two people who were involved in a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike this past Saturday.

Westhampton emergency services Chief Jason Carty said it's not unusual for a doctor or a nurse to assist at the scene of a car crash, but it's not every day they come across Dr. Oz.

"The individual identified himself as a physician and the response he actually got was, 'yes you are,' because they recognized him immediately," Carty told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.

Saturday night, near exit 6 on the Turnpike, Dr. Oz apparently saw the one-car crash and rushed to help the two victims.

"He was actually rendering, physically rendering aid to one of the patients," Carty said, by supporting the spine as a precaution and then giving a report to first responders.

"It's good to see when people stop and help their fellow man, if you will," the chief added.

The two victims in the crash were not seriously injured.
