Mets' Juan Lagares Expected To Return To Lineup Friday; Carlyle To DL

CHICAGO (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Mets center fielder Juan Lagares will miss his third straight game Thursday against the Chicago Cubs because of a strained right side.

Mets manager Terry Collins says he expects Lagares back in the lineup Friday when the team hosts Milwaukee.

The Gold Glover originally was expected to play Thursday, but Collins says it made more sense to give him another day because of the early start.

Collins says "how much better can it be in nine hours? Where if you give him 30 hours, there might be a significant improvement."

The Mets placed right-handed reliever Buddy Carlyle (back) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled left-hander Jack Leathersich from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Leathersich had a brief stint with the Mets this season and pitched a scoreless inning over two games.
