Auditions were being held until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal.

"I think that we bring to the table all different aspects of New York and a strong, feminine grace," a member of the a cappella group Femme Rhythm told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

"It's just a really interesting energy here," said Kane Mathis, who plays 21-string West African harp. "There's so many musicians and you have a really cool music program that's sponsored by the city so it's a great feeling."

"Great feedback when we perform on the subway, we absolutely love to do it, probably even better than performing at a bar or a venue. It's just honest reaction," said Crystalla Gonzalez of the Queens-based band LTrain. "We love to make people that look really sad...we like putting smiles on their faces."

Judges told CBS2's Meg Baker that they were listening for variety to represent the diversity of the city.

"Something has to catch my ear and take me somewhere else," Angelique Campo said.

Stiletta, an all female A capella group has been performing around the country and want to share their special talents in New York.

"Just by being by myself and making weird faces and weird noises come out," Meghan Costa, aka MC Beats, said.

Winners will be guaranteed a spot at a strategic subway location in the city.

The artists are not paid by the MTA, but can accept tips from the public.
