New Jersey Woman Raising Awareness About Water Quality With NJ-Chicago Canoe Trip

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- One New Jersey mother is hoping to raise awareness about water quality by paddling a canoe by herself from the Garden State to Chicago.

It's a 2,000-mile, two-month journey in just an outrigger canoe for Medford Lakes mom Margo Pellegrino, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

"Hudson River to the Erie canal and then into the Great Lakes," Pellegrino said.

She plans to do about 40 miles a day, and along the way she'll be raising awareness of environmental conservation.

"Getting people thinking about water and our water resources and our ocean and how it's all connected and how we need to take care of it for future generations," explained Pellegrino.

It's not Pellegrino's first paddling journey, she once canoed the entire Eastern seaboard all in an effort to preserve water quality.
