Family Rethinking Safety After Molotov Cocktail Thrown Into Their Bensonhurst Home

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were injured after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a Brooklyn home early Thursday.

The two suffered minor injuries and were taken to Lutheran Hospital, the Fire Department said.

The incident took place at 83rd Street between 21st Street and Bay Parkway at around 3 a.m., CBS2's Valerie Castro reports.

Faith Leahy lives in the first floor apartment with her family and said the smoke made its way into their home after the device caught the door mat on fire.

Leahy said it's clearly intentional but both of the families don't know the motive and said this has never happened in their neighborhood.

"I think it's absurd you're willing to go to this extent," Leahy said. "I don't know if this was directed towards me or just someone being foolish or it's just ridiculous and no idea who might have been behind it. No idea."

Leahy said it has her family rethinking their safety and wondering if they should install security cameras outside their home.

"It worries me that someone has the audacity to do this, that someone would go to this extent," Leahy added.

The incident is under investigation.
