Inwood Couple Begs City To Leave Car Alone During Honeymoon Despite Alternate Side Rules

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An Inwood couple is hoping the city will deliver the wedding present of their dreams.

As CBS2's Vanessa Murdock explained, this gift can't be found on any registry.

The striking orange paint job on the couple's Jeep is not what's grabbing attention, but a letter attached to the vehicle is.

"I think it's hilarious," Jason Compton said.

"I seen the paper and I thought that was real cute," Claudia Momciom added.

The handwritten note is a plea to the city.

"Dear ticketing officer, we are away until June 2nd getting married and going on our honeymoon. If there is any way you can just ticket the Jeep while we're away, and not tow us, we'd consider it the best wedding present ever. We'll happily pay all fees. Thank you so much!" Meghan and Rory wrote.

The couple apparently jetted off to their wedding in mid-May. They left their car on Thayer Street in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood, where alternate side parking rules apply on Wednesdays.

Via Twitter, CBS2 learned that they had been ticketed at least once, on May 20, but nothing was stuck to the windshield.

"You can pay to get married, have the honeymoon, but you can't pay to put it in a lot for a couple of weeks?" Eddy Perez said.

Perez said the car should be towed.

Michael Caputo agreed.

"Tow 'em away," he said.

Perez said he sees it happen all the time.

"Last week, in the span of one hour I saw seven cars getting towed. It's just so crazy that it's still here," he said.

There are no Wednesdays left before the couple returns. They're due back on Tuesday. It looks like they got the best wedding present ever; not having their car towed.

CBS2 reached out to the newlyweds for a comment, but did not hear back.
