Investigation Continues Into Death Of 4-Year-Old Yonkers Girl

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are continuing to investigate the death of a 4-year-old girl in Yonkers who accidentally shot herself in the face earlier this week.

A makeshift memorial of balloons, candles and flowers could be seen Saturday outside the home of Makayla Manners, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported.

The little girl died Friday following the accidental shooting just after 11 p.m. Monday at her apartment building on Walnut Street.

Police recovered a semiautomatic handgun and interviewed numerous people. The girl's mother was reportedly outside at the time of the Monday night incident and an aunt was inside the home.

Investigation Continues Into Death Of 4-Year-Old Yonkers Girl

Yonkers police told the Journal News that they want to know where the gun came from and how it got into the apartment, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported. Sources said the gun involved in the incident was stolen from out of state.

So far, there have been no arrests.
