Teen Girl Seriously Wounded In Paterson Shooting

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A teenage girl is in critical but stable condition after being shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a car, Paterson police said.

The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities. It remains unclear if the teen or someone else in the car was targeted by the shooter or if the car was moving or parked when the shooting occurred.

Police said following the shooting, the driver drove to a nearby intersection and the victim called for help.

The 17-year-old victim, of Clifton, suffered a gunshot wound to her back. Further information on her injuries were not disclosed.

The driver's name has not been released. The teen apparently was the only person injured in the shooting.
