Warren Stays In Yankees' Rotation, Capuano Heads To Bullpen

SEATTLE (CBSNewYork/AP) — Left-hander Chris Capuano will be the odd-man out of the New York Yankees' rotation when Masahiro Tanaka returns on Wednesday.

New York manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Capuano will go the bullpen when Tanaka rejoins the rotation for the series finale against Seattle.

Capuano is 0-3 with a 6.39 ERA in his three starts. Opponents are hitting .310 against the lefty and he gave up six hits and three earned runs in a season-high 5 1/3 innings last Friday in a loss to Oakland.

"I figured it was a numbers game," Capuano said. "I'm going to try to be ready to do my job."

Girardi said the decision with Capuano also is an indication of how right-hander Adam Warren has pitched. Warren has made 10 starts and is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA, with opponents hitting just .239. Warren has lost three of his last four decisions but pitched at least six innings in each start and allowed three earned runs or fewer.

"He could be really effective in the bullpen," Girardi said of Warren. "But his starts are important, too. We decided to keep him there."
