Gov. Cuomo, Lady Gaga Team Up To Push For Campus Sex Assault Policy

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has a new ally in his push for a new campus sexual assault policy at all of the state's colleges and universities.

New York-native Lady Gaga teamed up with the governor to publish a joint op-ed piece on Billboard Magazine's website Monday.

The piece urges lawmakers to extend a policy already in place at New York's public universities to private schools as well.

The policy, which was implemented at state schools last year, includes a new definition of sexual consent requiring a clear, affirmative agreement between partners. It also creates a victim's bill of rights and boosts training for law enforcement, faculty and students.

Gaga and Cuomo called campus sexual assault an "unacceptable epidemic," and said the bill is needed to reduce assaults and ensure justice for victims.
