New York City Gearing Up For Next Fall's Full-Day Pre-K

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Placement letters for this fall's all-day pre-kindergarten classes in New York City are expected to be released this week.

As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, watching his four nieces and nephews -- quadruplets -- playing in the pre-K room at P.S. 5, Olivio Cappellan couldn't help but smile.

"I cannot be more thankful, my family and I, that this is for free," he said.

The second year of full-day pre-K is gearing up for the fall, with 70,000 placement letters going out to parents on Wednesday, according to Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña.

"June 22 is your next great opportunity. This is a present that your children deserve and all you have to do is sign online," Fariña said.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said 73,000 children are expected to attend pre-K next fall, and he's promising a seat to each and every one of them.
