Brooklyn Deli Owner Goes Artisanal, Puts The Price Of Rising Rent On Display

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- An Atlantic Ave deli owner who said he is being forced to move due to a rent has raised his prices by 2.5 times to show what would happen if he passed the cost of the hike on to customers.

It's been happening all over the city, small store owners are being forced out by rising rents, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported.

Jesse the owner of Jesse's deli in Boerum Hill jacked up the price on items like Artisanal Roach Bombs.

"This way it will give awareness to people to stop the increase for small mom and pop stores," he said.

Jesse's has been a mainstay in the neighborhood since the 80s, and the owner does not want to move.

The rent increase might mean that Jesse has to move to another store front in the neighborhood.
