Demolition Of Old Bridge To Disrupt LIRR Service On Port Washington Line This Weekend

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some Long Island Rail Road riders are in store for some big disruptions this weekend.

Service will be reduced on the Port Washington line due to the demolition of the 118-year-old Colonial Road Bridge in Great Neck.

Big Service Disruptions Expected On LIRR's Port Washington Line This Weekend

"It's over 100 years old, it's been here a long, long, long time," railroad president Pat Nowakowski said.

Port Washington trains will be reduced to hourly service. Buses will also replace trains between Port Washington and Great Neck.

"Pay attention to our schedules, pay attention to the changes," Nowakowski said.

Work is expected to begin at midnight Friday.

Normal service is expected to return by early Monday morning.

"Service is supposed to reopen Monday morning at 3:15 a.m. so we're very confident that if things do not go the way we planned that we can still restore service," Nowakowski said.
