Man Armed With Machete Arrested For Alleged Road Rage In Holland Tunnel

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man was arrested after police say he reportedly struck another driver's vehicle with a machete during a road rage incident in the Holland Tunnel Wednesday.

Port Authority Police say the 49-year-old victim was driving a 2013 Toyota towards the Jersey-bound Holland Tunnel entrance around 10:15 p.m. when he became involved in a verbal dispute with another man.

Joel A. Estevez, 29, of 3rd Street, Brooklyn, was driving a 2013 Honda when he allegedly took out a machete, leaned out of the window and began striking the victim's car with the weapon.

The victim noted the suspect's plate number and called Port Authority Police. He followed the suspect for a short time before the suspect drove over the Pulaski Bridge where he lost track of him.

The victim was not injured.

Estevez was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and simple assault

The suspect was also arrested last June of 2014 and charged with  forcible touching and acting in a manner injurious to a child in Staten Island. Those cases are still pending.

"Can't be that serious that somebody pulls a machete out on somebody for road rage," one man told 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis.

"People are just nuts lately," added one woman from the West Village.
