Police: Man Chokes Woman During Attempted Rape In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man who they said choked a woman unconscious during an attempted rape in the Bronx.

The suspect allegedly followed the 20-year-old woman from the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station to her Grand Concourse apartment building around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Once inside the building, police said the suspect groped the woman, then grabbed her by the neck and commanded her to take her shorts off.

When the victim tried to fight him off, he choked her until she lost consciousness, police said.

Moments later, the victim recovered and managed to fight off the suspect, who fled northbound on the Grand Concourse to westbound Bedford Park Boulevard, police said.

The suspect is described by police as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, approximately 5'3" to 5'6", with muscular arms, close cut black hair, a shaped-up beard, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red polo shirt with a 24 Hour Fitness logo on the front, dark track pants, sneakers, and was holding a black gym bag.

The suspect may have lacerations and scratches to his face, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
