Police: Woman Punched Man Who Complained About Screaming Child On Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday were searching for a woman who punched a 65-year-old man, after the man complained about a screaming child on a subway train in Upper Manhattan.

Around 3:05 p.m. Thursday, the man was on the A Train near the 207th Street terminal in Inwood when the suspect got on with a screaming child, police said. The child kept screaming and the man asked the woman to have the child stop, police said.

The suspect got angry and started cursing at the man and punched him in the head, police said.

The suspect and the child got off the train at the 168th Street station in Washington Heights, police said. The victim refused medical attention.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic female in her mid-20s, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds.

Police have released video taken by a witness of the suspect, appearing to address passengers in her own defense.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
