Report: Knicks Are Frontrunners To Sign Greg Monroe, Arron Afflalo

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Coming off the worst season in franchise history, the Knicks have a lot of work to do this offseason to once again be competitive.

Team president Phil Jackson has his work cut out for him, and he got started at last week's draft with the selection of Kristaps Porzingis and the trade for rookie Jerian Grant.

But those players aren't expected to make a significant impact right away. With the free-agency period right around the corner, Jackson will be looking for veterans who can help turn this franchise around in a hurry.

According to a report, Jackson is targeting power forward Greg Monroe and shooting guard Arron Afflalo, and he has a very good chance of signing them.

Monroe, 25, averaged 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 0.5 blocks for the Pistons last season. Afflalo, 29, averaged 13.3 points, 1.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

And Jackson is also working on other potential targets.

According to ESPN.com, the Knicks will meet with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and center DeAndre Jordan in Los Angeles this week. Team officials will also meet with shooting guard Wesley Matthews, the website reports.

Teams are permitted to meet with free agents beginning on Wednesday.

After shedding payroll last season, the 'Bockers are expected to have between $26-$28 million to spend on new blood this summer.
