Jacoby Ellsbury Takes Day Off From Rehab With 'General Fatigue'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was scratched from Tuesday's Class-A rehab assignment due to "general fatigue."

Manager Joe Girardi said Ellsbury, who has been on the shelf since May 20 with a sprained knee, could still return for this weekend's series against Tampa Bay.

"That's my hope," Girardi said. "I've said all along though, we have to wait and see how he feels. What I hope for and sometimes what really happens are two different things. You've got to see how he's playing and how he's moving and how his body is responding."

Ellsbury, 31, went 0 for 3 on Monday for the team's minor league affiliate in Tampa.

"I guess the running we've done the last couple of days has kind of worn him out," Girardi said. "And it's not only in the one leg, it's in both legs. So we'll give him a day off today and hopefully he's back in there (Thursday)."

BELTRAN BANGED-UP

Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran left Tuesday night's game in the fifth inning after injuring his ribcage during an at-bat.

"Yesterday during the game I was sore, and today I felt basically the same," Beltran said after the 2-1 loss in Anaheim. "But on that swing where I hit the foul ball, I felt a little pinch. Out of precaution, Joe decided to take me out of the game. Hopefully I ice it with treatment and tomorrow I wake up feeling better."

Beltran said he doesn't expect a stint on the disabled list.

"Once I test it out, then I will know where I am," he said.

MILLER TIME

Closer Andrew Miller is scheduled to throw off a mound Wednesday for the first time since going on the DL last month with a strained forearm.
