Report: Knicks Meet With Monroe; Aldridge And Jordan Next
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Monday, it was reported that the Knicks were the frontrunners to sign power forward Greg Monroe.
Teams were permitted to meet with free agents beginning on Wednesday, and team president Phil Jackson wasted no time.
According to ESPN.com, the Knicks met with the 25-year-old after midnight. It's unclear if they offered him a contract.
The website reports that the 6-foot-11 Monroe is eyeing a maximum contract worth roughly $15 million per season. The Georgetown product met with the Bucks after meeting with the Knicks, per ESPN, and he's set to meet with the Lakers.
Monroe averaged 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 0.5 blocks for the Pistons last season.
According to multiple reports, Jackson is also set to meet with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and center DeAndre Jordan.
As for guards, ESPN.com reports that the Knicks have reached out to restricted free agent Patrick Beverley, and are interested in signing Wesley Matthews, Arron Afflalo and Danny Green.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that the Knicks have an excellent shot of adding Afflalo.
The 29-year-old averaged 13.3 points, 1.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season.
The Knicks are believed to have roughly $26-$28 million to spend this offseason.
They're coming off a dreadful 17-65 season, the worst in franchise history.
