Queens Man Gets 10 Years In Prison For Role In Cocaine Distribution Scheme

NEWRAK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Queens man has been sentenced to prison time for his role in a scheme to transport more than 20 kilograms of cocaine from California to New Jersey.

According to federal prosecutors in New Jersey, Robert Crawford, of Long Island City, was sentenced to 10 years in prison earlier this week.

He will also have to serve five years of supervised release once he's freed.

The 40-year-old, along with two New Jersey, men pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

The trio admitted conspiring from January 2011 through March 2014 to buy cocaine for distribution in New Jersey. In October 2012, police said they gave a courier $549,950 to buy roughly 20 kilograms of cocaine in California.

The currency was ultimately seized by authorities in California.
