Man Wearing American Flag Shirt Accused Of Raping Woman Inside Port Authority Bus Terminal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for a suspect wearing an American flag shirt wanted for raping a woman at the Port Authority Bus Terminal early Friday morning.

Authorities said the suspect attacked the 21-year-old woman, forcing her to have sex and physically assaulting her around 1 a.m. inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal parking garage at 625 Eighth Ave.

The suspect was last seen entering an elevator on the sixth level of the parking garage, authorities said.

The woman suffered lacerations to her face and body, police said. She was taken to the hospital where she was treated and later released.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 30 years old with brown eyes, short, braided hair, and a mustache and wearing and American Flag shirt. He is about 5'9" tall and weighs about 190 pounds, police said.

He was last seen wearing a red, white and blue striped button down and denim shorts with white sneakers.

News of the rape sent chills down the spines of those already nervous about parking in the sometimes desolate parking garage, CBS2's Steve Langford reports.

"It's very deserted up here and I think they could and probably should put a security guard," said East Rutherford, N.J. resident Joanne Dezego.

There is a security camera outside the elevator bank on the sixth floor, but there is no sign of any surveillance inside the cavernous garage.

"I don't park here in the evening at all," said Monroe, N.J. resident Carol Piza. "I just do day trips."

As of Saturday night, no statement had been released by Port Authority Bus Terminal, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.
