Police Seek Suspect In Manhattan Hate Crime Attack Investigation
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a man in connection with an assault being investigated as a hate crime in Manhattan.
On Saturday around 10:40 p.m., police said a 19-year-old woman was approached by a man outside 109 East Broadway.
Police said the two got into a verbal dispute and the man made anti-Muslim statements before spitting on and punching the woman in the face. The suspect then fled down Eldridge Street, police said.
The woman suffered a fractured jaw and was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in stable condition.
Police released surveillance video of the suspect as he walked down Eldridge Street in China Town following the assault.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 5'8" and 5'11" tall, and was wearing a dark-colored hat, dark-colored pants, shirt and carrying a plastic bag.
