New Trend Has Hollywood Celebrities Trading In Their Hair Color For A More Vibrant Look

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Several Hollywood celebrities have traded their golden locks and brunette tresses for a more vibrant look.

As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported, famous faces are being accented with pink, blue, and purple hair.

It may have started years ago with the hairstyle of singer 'Pink' but now celebrities like Katy Perry can be seen donning both pink and purple hair do's. Nikki Minaj has started a Hollywood hair trend as well with pink and green hair.

"Individuality. People want to stand out. They want to be seen, they want to be noticed, so being purple, yellow, orange also helps," Joel Warren, Master Colorist, Tricomi Salon explained.

"It brings our self expression. I can explain myself without using words, just colors, it's fun," Kate Branagh said.

Warren said that for about $150 to $350 you can get permanent color.

"We'd have to bleach it out, we can really lighten your hair perfectly, leave it in great condition, and you just tone it down with any color you want so you can go from boring to bold in less than two hours," he said.

Warren credited Kelly Osborne's purple hair, and Nicole Richie's wide variety of color for influencing other celebrities.

Most recently Kylie Jenner changed her hair color to turquoise, and Jenny McCarthy posted a picture of herself with bright pink tresses.

"It's not just for kids. All types of women are getting it. Older women are getting it, next thing you see Helen Mirren with purple hair, ya know it's not just for kids, that's what's great about it," Warren said.

Warren thinks the next celebrity hair trend will be random spots of color all over the hair, which he calls 'feckles.'

Some celebs are also just coloring strands of their hair while others choose to add colored hair extensions.
