PSEG Long Island Ranks Last In Nationwide Customer Satisfaction Suvey

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- PSEG Long Island ranks dead last among major electric companies nationwide when it comes to customer satisfaction, according to a new survey.

The J.D. Power survey released Wednesday gave PSEG a score of 584 points out of a total of 1,000, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. It measures customer satisfaction on six factors: power quality and reliability; price; billing and payment; corporate citizenship; communications; and customer service.

Some Long Island residents have complained about having sky-high incorrect bills that are not rectified quickly, Hall reported. Others are frustrated with the utility altogether.

However, PSEG spokesman Jeffrey Weir pointed out the score was 10 percent higher than it was last year.

"We are the most improved utility in the entire country," he told Hall. "There's no other utility that improved as much as we did. Now clearly, we have a significant amount of work left to do to get to the level that we want to be."

Weir also said PSEG is "one of the best in the industry in terms of call speed to answer. The speed to answer yesterday was 21 seconds."

The survey comes out as the utility is proposing a three-year, $374 million rate hike. The extra revenue would help enhance tree trimming and line inspections and increase customer satisfaction overall, utility officials say.
