Queens Street To Be Named For Slain NYPD Detective Brian Moore

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — A New York City street will be named for New York Police Department officer Brian Moore who was gunned down on patrol in May.

The intersection of 222nd Street and 92nd Road in Queens Village will be co-named "Detective 1st Grade Brian Moore Way," the New York Post reports. The City Council voted on it last week.

Moore, 25, and his partner were in Queens on May 2 when Moore was shot to death. Demetrius Blackwell has pleaded not guilty in Moore's death. Prosecutors say Blackwell was outside the NYPD patrol car, pulled out a .38-caliber gun and shot Moore twice. The 25-year-old officer was in a coma before dying two days later.

Moore was posthumously promoted to detective shortly after.

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito says the city must remain resolute that violence against the NYPD is never acceptable.
