Hot Weather Just Part Of The Lineup At Gathering of The Vibes Music Festival

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The heat is not slowing down preparation for one of the region's largest music festivals. But it's not making the task an easy one.

So far this week, the Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival has been moving to the beat of construction equipment and the assembly of scaffolding, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported.

"We seriously are religious about how we drink water," one electrician said. " ... We're serious about staying hydrated."

More than 20,000 are expected this weekend when the temperatures should dip back below 90 for the festival's 20th anniversary.

The event runs Thursday trough Sunday at Seaside Park and includes The String Cheese Incident, Wilco, Weezer, Gregg Allman, Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals and more.

The weather is always a co-star at the event.

"It always is hot," said Phil Segneri with Fire Engine Pizza. "If we get a little rain, it doesn't stop anything. My first year, it poured all Friday, and we were still busy."

Between the heat, lightning and hail in years past, festival founder Ken Hays jokes that even locusts have seem to come out.

"But that's the nature of an outdoor summer music festival is we're all in it together and enjoying quality time," he said.
