Video: NYPD Officer Purportedly Punches Man During Traffic Stop In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating a video which appears to show an officer punching a driver during a traffic stop in the Bronx.

As 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported, the video begins as officers pull 24-year-old Timothy Nelson from his car after he was stopped for allegedly making an illegal U-turn at East 229th Street.

The video was filmed by a man who was also in the car.

Seconds later, Nelson is taken to the ground by the three police officers, his arms and legs flailing as one of the officers purportedly punches him in the face, Schuck reported.

"Yo, while ya'll hitting him for?" a man can be heard saying in the video. You can also hear Nelson screaming that he's being punched in the face.

Nelson claims he was cooperating with the officers before he was dragged from the car, Schuck reported.

Internal Affairs is taking a look at the video and investigating what may have preceded the stop.

Nelson had to be forced into a squad car by about a dozen police officers. He's charged with resisting arrest and is due back in court in September.
