Coast Guard Chopper Makes Emergency Landing On Staten Island Golf Course

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Coast Guard helicopter had to make an emergency landing on the grounds of a Staten Island golf course Sunday because of smoke and fumes in the cockpit. No injuries were reported.

The craft landed on the course at Richmond County Country Club around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Petty Officer Sabrina Laberdesque says the helicopter had four people in it. They had come up from Atlantic City to monitor an oil spill in Bayonne, New Jersey, after a tugboat struck a pier Saturday.

Petty Officer Gale Dale told WCBS 880 the problem was caused by a faulty alternator.

A call to the country club was not returned.
