Road Rage Incident Leaves Glass Shattered, Mother And Kids Crying In Midtown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A road rage incident in Midtown Manhattan ended with a mother and her kids crying for help, and a second driver running from the scene.

As CBS2's Emily Smith reported, a child was left clinging to her mother following a road rage incident that left her entire back window smashed.

It happened around 5 p.m. on Monday, in the midst of rush hour traffic. It ended with the driver of a white van taking off. A street vendor recalled seeing a woman with her infant son crying.

"Yeah I see a lot of police, and a small baby, and that's it," he said.

It started a few blocks away at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. Apparently, the woman wouldn't let the driver of the white van get in front of her, so he decided to follow her east.

The woman has two other adults in her vehicle along with her 4-year-old daughter, and infant son in the back seat, police said.

She turned left onto Park Avenue, and turned right onto 59th Street, where her back window suddenly shattered. It's believed the driver of the white van may have thrown something.

So far, police have not released the surveillance video shot by street cameras that belong to United Jewish Federation.

Police are still looking for the driver of the white van and two other men that witnesses said he had in the vehicle.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact authorities.

The little girl reportedly had minor injuries on her leg from shattered glass, none of the passengers in the car were hospitalized.
