Police ID Suspect In Red Hook Shooting That Claimed Life Of Unborn Child

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --  Police have identified a suspect in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn on Monday night.

Police are now looking for Marquise Frederick, 19, in connection with the shooting that took place around 10:45 p.m. in the Red Hook section of the borough.

Five Hurt In Red Hook Shooting

As 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported, two men pulled up in a Jeep in front of a three-story apartment building located at 98 Dwight St., got out of the vehicle and opened fire.

Five people were struck, among them a 19-year-old pregnant woman who has lost her unborn child, 1010 WINS reported.

Police said the shooting was retaliation for an earlier shooting at the Gowanus Houses, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported. NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the victims appear to have been innocent bystanders.

"It looked like it was a group outside on a warm summer evening," he said. "There was a canope there. People were just out relaxing when this car pulled up."

The five friends were waiting on Viva Smith's porch for a Chinese food delivery when the shots rang out, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

"These kids are good kids. They're not out here in the streets doing all kinds of craziness. They're here, they're good kids. They got shot for no reason," said Smith.

"I heard four bangs in the distance," a witness said. "It sounded like it could have been a shotgun, and then about five minutes later I heard a bunch of sirens. It's a big concern. It's been a very quiet area for a long time now."

"There were multiple gunshots, very loud," another witness said. "By the time we came to the window, there were eight ambulances here and police were everywhere. I saw them bring out a pregnant lady on a gurney."

Special Houston, who was four months pregnant, was shot five times, Jones reported. She is listed in critical condition.

"She was pregnant, and she lost her child, and that's sad," said Jackie Jepsom, whose daughter was at the scene seconds before shots rang out. "This really has to stop, it really does, because it doesn't make no sense whatsoever. This younger generation is just out of control."

Two other women and two men were injured in the shooting. The victims, who are between the ages of 19 and 22, are being treated at Lutheran Medical Center.

The suspects fled the scene in a Jeep. No arrests have been made.

The shooting followed a weekend of violence in New York City. Three people were killed and 22 others injured in 10 shootings across the city.

City officials are demanding action.

"We must put an end to this senseless gun violence," Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams told 1010 WINS.
