2 Suspects Apprehended In String Of Robberies, Rapes In Manhattan, The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects have been arrested in connection with three robberies and rapes in Manhattan and the Bronx this summer.

Isaiah Rivera, 31, and Joey Cruz, 26, were taken into police custody Sunday night. They were identified a day earlier.

Charges were pending against Rivera and Cruz late Sunday, police said.

A third suspect, Fernando Sandel, 26, was arrested on Friday and charged the following day with rape, robbery and other crimes, police said.

The suspects were linked to three incidents.

Police said the first incident was reported Sunday, June 28 when a 20-year-old woman made arrangements to meet with one of the suspects on East 138th Street in the South Bronx around 11:50 p.m.

The suspects showed up, with one another suspect, and forced the victim to the roof of the location where they raped her and stole her money, police alleged.

The victim was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, where she was treated and released.

The second incident happened on this past Monday, , when a 34-year-old woman agreed to meet one of the suspects at the Grand Hyatt Hotel located at 109 E. 42nd St., police said.

When the first suspect arrived at the room, he sprayed the victim in the face with an unknown substance and threw her on the bed, police alleged. Two additional suspects also came into the room where all three tied the woman up and raped her, police alleged.

They reportedly stole her cell phone and pocketbook.

The woman was also taken to St Luke's Hospital where she was treated and released.

The third incident happened on Tuesday around 10:40 p.m. The 32-year-old woman met up with one of the suspects at her apartment on Lexington Avenue in Gramercy Park, police said.

When the suspect arrived at the apartment, he sprayed the woman with a disabling chemical and threw her on the bed, police said.

The two additional suspects arrived at the location and tied her up. All three suspects then raped the victim and removed her phone, laptop and bracelet, police said. She was treated and released from a local hospital.
