Road Rage Attack Caught On Camera; Brick Residents Say Incidents Are Becoming More Common

BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An apparent road rage attack in Brick was caught on camera this past weekend.

Cellphone footage captured three people beating and stabbing a man in front of his family on Saturday night.

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, two men in light colored shirts could be seen fighting with the 39-year-old victim and throwing him to the ground, while his wife and kids watched from the car.

"Both drivers got out of their cars, and there was a physical confrontation," said Brick Township police Chief Nils Bergquist.

Police said the victim was stabbed in the arm, chest, and lower back, and the arguing between the two cars started a few miles away before escalating at the intersection of Route 88 and Barb Lane.

"The Acura was driving very aggressively, and the the gentleman from Toms River who was stabbed, rolled down his window, and they exchanged some words," Bergquist said.

Police were looking for three people Monday, two men and a woman, all in their 20s, driving a dark colored Acura with tinted windows, and New York license plates.

"It's terrible. You're afraid to get involved with anything anymore," Jane Weighman said.

"I've lived here like 28 years, and I've never heard of an incident like that, so that's very scary," Patti Grainer said.

Others said road rage is becoming more common.

"Especially if you drive around Brick and Lakewood. I've see people go up on curbs to get around you. It's not even a lane and they make their own lane. They cut you off," Lisa Calabrese said.

The victim in this case called 911 after he was stabbed, but police said don't wait.

"Give the police a call and certainly don't confront the individual," Bregquist added.

The victim was treated and released from Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Police were hoping that by releasing the video, more witnesses would come forward to help them catch the suspects.
