WATCH: Furious Mark Teixeira Blasts Fan Who Goes For Foul Ball

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was a strange day at the ballpark in the Bronx on Sunday.

Most importantly, the Yankees were shut out for the second straight game, and now their lead over the second-place Blue Jays is just a game-and-a-half.

But the final score aside, there were some odd incidents.

In the top of the ninth inning, first baseman Mark Teixeira reached into the stands in an effort to catch a foul ball off the bat of Chris Colabello. He couldn't make the play, and a fan ran over to try to grab the ball.

That didn't sit well with the three-time All-Star.

"You can insult," Teixeira said, according to the New York Post. "You can't assault. We know you are upset we lost three in a row. Keep it to insults."

Teixeira was concerned about getting injured.

"He ran into me," he said, according to the newspaper. "He really wanted that baseball. I'm all right, thank God."

Earlier in the game, in the fourth inning, a fan in the stands threw a home-run ball hit by Jose Bautista onto the field.

Amazingly, it hit left fielder Brett Gardner in the back of the head.

Gardner wasn't hurt and stayed in the game.

"It hit him right in the head and that is kind of disappointing," manager Joe Girardi said. "I know it's kind of tradition to throw it back, but aim away from the players. It has been going on for years. I don't know if I have ever seen anyone hit. It's dangerous when fans throw objects on the field because players aren't looking."
