Port Authority Bus Terminal To Change Gate Assignments For Commuter Efficiency

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you find your bus at the Port Authority Bus Terminal while on auto-pilot, you'll need to re-program after Labor Day.

As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, many gates are being changed in order to make the operation more efficient.

As buses at the terminal drove up the ramps to their gates, bus terminal general manager Diane Ehler explained the gate reassignment.

"We're consolidating the operations for NJ TRANSIT and Coach to give them better command and control over their bus operation to improve the efficiency of the operation," she said.

Port Authority Bus Terminal To Change Gate Assignments In Effort To Be More Commuter Friendly

Beginning Sept. 8, 80 percent of NJ TRANSIT will be on the third floor, which should help commuters.

"Shorter lines, less crowding, and a more reliable trip home," said Ehler.

Most of the Coach USA buses will be on the fourth floor. The changes are designed to be more commuter friendly.
