Yankees Head To Canada For Massive Series Against First-Place Jays

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- What a difference a week makes.

Last Friday, the Blue Jays came into the Bronx trailing the first-place Yankees by 4 1/2 games in the American League East.

The Jays made a statement, sweeping the Bombers and cutting the deficit to a game-and-a-half.

Since then, Toronto has just kept on winning.

The two teams will meet again this weekend, but this time the Blue Jays are in first place. Toronto currently leads New York by a half-game.

The Blue Jays will look to pull away from the Yankees at Rogers Centre this weekend, while the Yankees will aim to regain the top spot in the division.

Prior to beating the Indians on Thursday night in Cleveland, New York had lost five games in a row. The club scored just six runs over that span.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have been absolutely red hot since acquiring superstar shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and starting pitcher David Price prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Toronto has won 11 in a row and has lost just one game in August (on August 1 against the Royals).

In the series opener on Friday night, Ivan Nova will get the ball for the Yankees. He'll square off against Price.

Masahiro Tanaka will pitch for the Yankees against Marco Estrada on Saturday and rookie Luis Severino will start for New York in the series finale. Drew Hutchison will oppose him.
