Man Held With Self-Inflicted Stab Wound After Allegedly Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was under police guard Sunday morning, after police alleged he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at knifepoint in Queens.

As 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis reported, Michelle Jimenez, 18, had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Coronel, 21, according to police.

But around 9:35 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a 911 call in front of 32-65 81st St. in Jackson Heights, Queens, after witnesses said Coronel forced Jimenez into a light-colored vehicle at knifepoint, police said.

The suspect allegedly threatened to slash anyone who tried to intervene, Dennis reported.

The suspect then drove east on Northern Boulevard from 81st Street with Jimenez in the back seat, police said.

"It's terrible, but you know, what are you going to do?" a neighbor said.

The neighbor said there was nothing witnesses could do about the incident, but many called 911. Maria, a livery cab driver, said police swarmed the area.

"Many cars, police around," she said.

Officials say the woman was safely dropped off by the suspect at the corner of 82nd Street and Astoria Boulevard at 9:40 p.m.

Coronel was then arrested at 88th Street and 24th Avenue without incident, police said.

He was charged Sunday with first-degree rape, first-degree robbery, kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal contempt, police said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center with a self-inflicted stab wound, and his condition was listed as stable, police said.
